En 1890, l'égyptologue Hugo de Reuhman achète à un libraire parisien une série de lettres écrites par Bernardino Drovetti, ambassadeur de France au Caire sous Napoléon Ier. Ce dernier décrit notamment la découverte d'un tombeau phénicien renfermant un étrange sarcophage. Celui-ci conserverait la dépouille d'un grand prêtre de Moloch qui aurait découvert le secret de l'immortalité.
